Article from The Vidette Messenger, Valparaiso, IN: March 30, 1931:

"Cornerstone laying ceremonies for the $500,000 high school unit of Lew Wallace school will be held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with school authorities, members of the board of education and civic leaders participating.

William A. Wirt, superintendent of the Gary schools, will give the principal address at the gathering. Following a selection by the Lew Wallace band, short talks will be given by John N. Holloway, representing the Glen Park Booster's club; Mrs. C. R. Black, president of the parent-teachers' association; J.J. Kelley and I.C. Frush.

Leslie I. Combs, treasurer of the school board will then read the list of materials which will be placed in the cornerstone. Mrs. Adele M. Chase, secretary of the board, will place the stone and P.W. Seyl, president of the board, will lay it."
