A graduate of Lew Wallace who made good of himself is Bobby Brooks - class of 1948.  He was a football standout in high school and recruited to play college ball for Bear Bryant at Kentucky, where his team won a national championship.  He was to sign with the Steelers as a pro, but chronic injuries prevented him from passing the physical.

Mr. Christoff says that on his first day reporting in at the school, he saw a familiar-looking man standing on the front step and started over to speak with him.  Turned out Mr. Brooks remembered Mr. Christoff from the school system as well, and they happily greeted one another.  Puzzled, Mr. Christoff inquired as to the reason for Mr. Brooks’ presence on campus that day.  “I’m one of the new custodians,” he replied.  Scrambling not to show shock on his face, Mr. Christoff welcomed Mr. Brooks to the staff and said he made a point of addressing him, as he did all the custodial and maintenance staff, as “Mr. Brooks,” for the entire time of his employment at the school.  He said it’s all about giving people dignity.
