It is not possible to think of Lew Wallace apart from our principal, Miss Verna M. Hoke. She commands the respect of the faculty, students, and citizens of the community. Coming to Lew Wallace High School as its first principal, she has succeeded in building a school with high moral and scholastic standards. Those of us who have been closely associated with Miss Hoke realize that she has the interest of every student at heart. Her administrative efficiency is recognized throughout the state. Throughout her tenure at Lew Wallace, Miss Hoke has been keenly interested in the affairs of the school and city. Her civic activities include membership in the Educational Committee of the American Association of University Women, the Gary League of Women Voters, and the Indiana School Women's Club. She is an omnivorous reader and it is rumored that she plays a good game of bridge.<br />
